A San Diego law firm focused on civil litigation and insurance defense is seeking an Associate Attorney for its San Diego, CA office. Most of the firm’s work comes from insurance carriers, and associates handle a range of civil litigation matters, including depositions, personal injury, liability defense, and product or property disputes.

The firm welcomes associates at a range of experience levels, including recent law graduates. It prefers candidates who have handled at least one deposition but is willing to train and mentor the right attorney. Candidates from law firms, in-house roles, and government positions will be considered; the firm is not seeking partner-level attorneys at this time. Junior and new associates get trial experience right away, often as third chair. The path to partnership is also quicker than usual: about 4–5 years to non-equity partner, with equity partnership a few years after that.

Candidates must be active members in good standing of the California Bar and have civil litigation experience; insurance defense experience is preferred. Strong organization, legal writing, communication, and client relations skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and take ownership of matters. Typical hours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. PST. The billable requirement is 1,900 hours per year, and pro bono hours don’t count toward it. The salary range is $140,000–$210,000, plus discretionary quarterly bonuses based on performance and meeting billable targets.
